Report: Pa. Woman Gave 4-Year-Old Opiates To 'Help Her Sleep'

CONEWAGO TWP. (KDKA) -- A woman in York County is accused of forcing her 4-year-old daughter to consume opiates.

According to the York Daily Record, 27-year-old April Renee Rose of Conewago Township faces charges of drug possession, endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person.

Officers got involved when a "suspicious incident" was reported to the York County Office of Children, Youth and Families.

Police say the child's grandmother overheard her daughter say, "take this" to the little girl in a bathroom. When the child said, "no, it's yucky," the mother said, "I don't care take it anyway. It will help you sleep."

When the grandmother went into the bathroom she found white powdery residue on the sink area.

The 4-year-old's urine tested positive for opiates. An officer reportedly noticed that the girl's eyes were in constant motion and that her pupils were dilated.
