Report: Mother, 2 Children Killed In Steubenville Fire

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (KDKA) -- Three people were killed Sunday in a house fire in Steubenville.

According to CBS affiliate WTRF, firefighters rushed to Linden Avenue around 2:30 a.m. to discover a home completely consumed in flames.

The blaze destroyed the home and a car parked out front.

"The vehicle was burning, but we couldn't put any water on it because it had live wires laying across it. So, every time we put water on it, the wires were popping and jumping around. We basically had to put the structure fires out while the vehicle was burning behind us," said Steubenville Fire Chief Carlo Capaldi.

Neighbors have identified the victims as a mother and her two young children. A fourth victim, the father of the children, is hospitalized at West Penn Hospital with burns.

"As the night went on, I heard a few firemen say they were definitely sure that there were three bodies in there still. My granddaughter and grandson are devastated. They played with the kids. They had a little teepee built in the yard next door. They were out there playing two days ago," said Michael Brown, the father of a neighbor.

Fire Marshals have not yet commented on the victims or the cause of the fire.
