Free Agent Running Back DeAngelo Williams Signs With Steelers

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Former Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams was visiting with the Steelers on Friday and left the building with a new two-year contract.

The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Adam Schefter was the first to have the report.

Schefter though wasn't the only one to break that news as Williams himself tweeted out that he signed a deal with the Steelers but has since deleted the tweet.

Williams left the Panthers as the franchise's all-time leading rusher having rushed for 6,846 yards.

He was originally drafted by the Panthers in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

"Being with one team for nine years, you know more about that organization than all the other organizations. But being released on Wednesday, then coming in here and them giving me an opportunity, I'm going to learn everything that I can about Steelers Nation," Williams said in a press release. "I know that they travel well because when we played them in Carolina they would fill up our stadium, and it would be half and half."

The 31-year-old Williams is coming off foot and ankle injuries in 2014 that limited him to just six games for the Panthers in which he carried the ball 62 times for 219-yards.
