Report: Flames Contact Penguins About Fleury

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) –The Pittsburgh Penguins have been Stanley Cup champs for only a few days, but there's already speculation about if a star will be traded.

According to a Calgary Sun report, Flames General Manager Brad Treliving has contacted the Penguins about Marc-Andre Fleury.

Fleury was forced to watch most of the playoffs due to a concussion and the stellar play of Matt Murray. His only start was a Game 5 overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference Finals.

While Murray stole the show in the playoffs, it was Fleury who kept the Penguins afloat during a rocky regular season. He posted a 35-17-6 record to go along with a 2.29 GAA and a .921 save percentage.

There is no question about the importance of Fleury's contributions to this team's Stanley Cup title. They also weren't lost on Murray.

The Penguins are already facing salary cap issues heading into the offseason. But, with a potential expansion draft looming next summer, the Penguins may be forced into moving their franchise goaltender.

During today's final press conference, Penguins General Manager Jim Rutherford said he'd like to start the season with both of his star goaltenders.

There are questions to be answered internally prior to any potential move involving Fleury.

Do the Penguins feel confident in Murray being able to handle the load as the number one goaltender? Will moving Fleury clear enough cap space to re-sign other players from the championship team?

Time will tell, but things appear to be heating up prior to next weekend's NHL Draft.
