Report: Another Cal U Football Player Charged In Severe Beating
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There are new developments in the arrest of several California University of Pennsylvania football players in connection with a violent assault off campus that left a man with severe brain injuries.
According to the Washington Observer-Reporter,a sixth football player is now charged in the incident.
That player, 20-year-old Shelby Wilkerson, a freshman defensive back from Harrisburg, turned himself into police Saturday, the Observer-Reporter reports.
The other five players – James Williamson, Corey Ford, Jonathan Barlow, Rodney Gillin, and D'Andre Dunkley – were taken into custody earlier this week.
The group is accused of beating and stomping on 30-year-old Lewis Campbell outside of an off-campus restaurant as he was trying to break up a fight.
According to the Observer-Reporter, witnesses to the attack identified Wilkerson to police. He is now facing charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, harassment and criminal conspiracy.
Campbell remains in Allegheny General Hospital. The Observer-Reporter reports he's in critical condition.
Cal U officials canceled Saturday's football game following the arrests.
