Red Cross Assists Nearly 350 Residents After Connellsville Flooding
CONNELLSVILLE (KDKA) -- The American Red Cross says they have provided assistance to nearly 350 residents in Connellsville after this week's unprecedented flooding.
The Connellsville mayor declared a state of emergency when heavy downpours caused significant flooding in the area at the beginning of this week.
The Red Cross has been providing emergency assistance in the area since Monday and will continue to help residents into next week. So far, Red Cross volunteers have distributed over 3,300 bulk items, including water, snacks and clean-up kits. The Red Cross also has a damage assessment team, which has helped to identify 161 homes that have been damaged by the flood water. They say 29 homes are considered destroyed and 45 have major damage.
The Red Cross service center is located at 905 Fireman St. in Connellsville Township. It is open until 6 p.m. Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Starting Tuesday, the service center will move to the Connellsville Area Community Ministries at 110 West Crawford Ave.
