Record Number Of Gun Permits Issued In Allegheny County

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Allegheny County set a record for the number of gun permits issued in the county in one day Friday.

There were 222 gun permits issued. County officials say they've seen a noticeable spike in the number of gun permits being issued since the San Bernardino shootings.

There was even a surge of applications after the Paris attacks in November.

In November, the Allegheny County sheriff's office said they typically saw about 50 applications per day, but they were seeing around 100 applications in the days following the Paris attacks.

Offices in Butler County, Beaver County and Westmoreland County saw increased numbers of applications as well.

"I think it's a motivating factor," Westmoreland County Sheriff Jonathan Held said. "Any time we have a large terrorist attack or a mass shooting."
