Record Cold In February, Farmers' Almanac Predicts 'Mixed Bag' For Upcoming Winter
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - The 200th edition of the Farmers' Almanac is out and it's showing a mixed bag when it comes to this winter.
Sandi Duncan the managing editor for the almanac tells the "KDKA Morning News" there could be some snow storms in the early part of November, "but nothing too much."
"Towards New Year's Eve, we actually have the word mild in January for New Year's day, so it's going to kind of be a mixed bag. We do think that winter is going to start a little early then get a little milder but then hold on, because toward the middle of January the snow comes back," said Duncan.
They predict February is when the "ice-cold conditions" return.
"We're calling for very bitter cold conditions and near record cold near the middle of the month as well as a pretty big storm from Feb. 16-19. So we do see this winter as a return to the ice cold winter especially compared to last year."
The Farmers' Almanac claims 80 to 85 percent accuracy with their forecast but admit last year's was thrown off by El Nino.
