Ray Vinopal: Guys Believe in Defensive Scheme

PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- Pitt safety Ray Vinopal joined The Fan Morning Show Friday after a conditioning workout at Heinz Field. Gregg Giannotti asked Vinopal if he has noticed a difference as Defensive Coordinator Matt House enters his second season.

"I believe in our scheme, and I think all our guys believe in our scheme. It's just up to execution," Vinopal said. "In terms of spring ball, we executed much better than we did in the past season, and that's going to be exciting for us this year."

Jim Colony asked how different the front seven will look after Aaron Donald graduated.

"You're not trying to replace, we're just reloading. AD's a great player, one of the best in the country last year obviously, and you know he's a tough guy to replace. But we've got just as talented guys behind him that..as a group effort, I expect the same production," Vinopal said.

Vinopal talked about offseason conditioning, and said that there have been exercises that have focused on mental toughness.

"We're testing guys, seeing who's going to just not quit. That's what you need on the football field, and that's what you want out of your teammates is a guy next to you and knowing that he's not going to quit no matter how hard it gets," Vinopal said. "It's been fun."
