"Ramp Crawl" Held To Educate Businesses On Accessibility
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- People dodged the rain Thursday night to visit several bars and restaurants in Oakland.
They were taking part in the second annual "Ramp Crawl" hosted by the group Oakland For All.
"We have established an organization that educates businesses on the importance of making their businesses accessible and welcoming for people with disabilities," Joan Stein said.
About 60 people registered for this year's event. The whole idea is to educate businesses and the community about the importance of accessibility.

"What we're trying to help businesses understand in the Oakland area is that access is a civil right, the ADA is civil rights legislation that requires that all businesses comply with ADA standards," DJ Stemmler said.
Organizers say their mission is to make sure businesses don't discriminate.
"Some of Oakland's businesses are unaware of ADA standards, not aware of how to comply, don't know what they need to do to make changes and we're here to help support them," Stemmler explained.
The Ramp Crawl was started in 2015 as a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Americans With Disabilities Act.
