Rain Delays City's Pothole Blitz

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pothole stories are getting like fish stories. Everyone you talk to can tell you about the whopper they just missed, just hit or just swerved to get around.

"You don't know if you're gonna get a flat tire, said Scott Shaw of Bloomfield.

Yep, pothole season is here.

PennDOT and Allegheny County started their own efforts to try and fill some earlier this week.

The city's Pothole Blitz was supposed to start this evening, but had to be postponed due to Tuesday's rainy weather.

"We have asked them to take hand blowers and see if they can blow some of the water out," said Pittsburgh Public Works Director Mike Gable.

That would give Public Works crews a running start when they begin the cold patching on Wednesday, weather permitting. The city has been taking calls, texts and emails since last week.

Brookline has the highest number of complaints, followed by Squirrel Hill, Bloomfield and Beechview. On Monday alone, the 311 system logged over a thousand calls.

"We have a lot of crews out there and a lot of material, so by the end of the week we should be in good shape," said Gable.
