Rain Causes Wall Collapse At Mt. Washington Park

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - - The rain and thunderstorms caused a wall to collapse in Mt. Washington Sunday morning.

Part of a hillside and a section of retaining wall came crashing down off of Virginia Avenue.

Heavy rain caused the hill to slide.

The force of the slide also took out a light pole and damaged part of the bleachers at "Olympia Park Field."

"For now, until we do a further investigation, Olympia Park Field will be closed until we A. figure out what happened, and 2. How to restore it," said Guy Costa, Chief of Operations for the City of Pittsburgh. "Quite extensive damage. We're very fortunate no one got injured."

Police put up yellow caution tape around the area to keep people away from the debris.

No word on how long the repairs will take.
