Prisoner Captured After Mistakenly Being Released From Jail

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- A woman who authorities say was mistakenly released from the Fayette County Prison on Friday is now back in police custody.

According to Uniontown Police, 28-year-old Evelyn Campbell is serving a sentence and was "aware of the mistake" when she was released Friday evening.

"The female did use another inmate's name, similar to hers, signed the bond papers under the other female's name and was released," said Lt. Thomas Kolencik, of the Uniontown Police. "It's considered an escape because she is under sentence, so she knew she had to be in prison, and she left."

Police say Campbell turned herself in Saturday afternoon.

She was serving a three to six month sentence on theft charges.

Police say she is now facing charges of escape, forgery and false identification.
