Primanti Bros. Institutes Fish Ban For Steelers-Dolphins Playoff Weekend

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Primanti's, the place that puts fries on sandwiches, is a favorite stop for fans and tourists before the big game.

"It's our 25th wedding anniversary, so we saved some money to go to Maui, her and I," says customer Mike Preece. "Instead, we spent it on tickets, and we came to Pittsburgh. Had to come to Primanti Bros. and try a sandwich for the first time, and see a game."

"I didn't have a choice," wife, Dusty says. Then, she admits, "No, I'm a fan."

Primanti Bros. in the Strip will be jammed leading up to the Steelers playoff game on Sunday. But don't ask for a fish sandwich. A sign on the door says no fish sandwiches will be served until after the game.

"They're talking about the dolphin," says longtime employee Toni Haggerty. "But the dolphin is not a fish, he's a mammal. I don't know why they're talking about it."

"Support the playoff game on Sunday. It's going to be a blowout," a Steelers fan says.

Down the road at Wholey's, they are still selling fish sandwiches - even hooking Dolphins fans.

"We get a lot of out-of-towners from Miami, come in after the game, and we'll console them and go from there," says co-owner Dan Wholey.

"We don't sell dolphins here, but we do sell the sport dolphin fish, which is also called Mahi Mahi," says his brother, Sam Wholey.

Counter man Mike Hartman made filets that "dolphin fish."

"I'm going to go through this dolphin like Big Ben's going to go through the Miami defense. Very easily," he said.
