Preparations Underway At Heinz Field For Rolling Stones Concert

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Preparations are underway at Heinz Field for the Rolling Stones concert this weekend.

The rockers are rolling in on Saturday night, and you're lucky if you're among the thousands with a ticket to see them.

They were considered aging rockers 10 years ago, when they played PNC Park. Now, in they're in their 70s.

"It is a big deal. They skipped Pittsburgh on the last one, on the '50 and Counting Tour,'" said Scott Mervis, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's pop music critic. "It's good to have them on this one."

Mervis gives a full disclosure: the Rolling Stones are his favorite.

"They're my favorite Rock 'n Roll band of all time," says Mervis. "I think they're the best Rock 'n Roll band of all time in terms of like, you can compare them to the Beatles, but the Stones had a certain swagger, that the Beatles didn't have."

At Heinz Field, the banners were going up Wednesday afternoon and they were waiting for an army of tractor trailers to set up the huge stage and sound system.

But the show isn't selling as well as say the recent Taylor Swift show. There's a reason for that.

"The Stones fans are a little bit older. And they don't want to drag themselves to a stadium to see a band. It's just not the kind of experience that they really are looking for at their age," says Mervis.

That's not the only reason; ticket prices run as high as $400 a pop. For some Stones fans, you can't always get what you want.

So is this it? Is this the last time the Stones roll into Pittsburgh?

"The last time? You can never say the last time right?" says Mervis. "You know, I always thought that I would see the Stones someday in a theatre, like sitting down, playing the Blues, maybe Jagger could still stand up."
