PRC Receives 2014 Governor's Award For Environmental Excellence

On April 22, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection will bestow its most prestigious honor – the Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence – upon the Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) in recognition of the non-profit's successful tailgate recycling programs that engaged/educated 500,000+ tailgaters in Pittsburgh & Philadelphia.

Funding from the Alcoa Foundation and collaboration with a multitude of partners enabled PRC to launch a successful campaign that is responsible for recycling more than 142,000 pounds of aluminum, glass, plastic and cardboard containers (average 4,000+ pounds per event).  Since 2010, PRC has collaborated with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, Pitt Panthers, Pittsburgh Pirates and the 2011 and 2012 NHL Winter Classics.
