Powerball Jackpot Soars To $450 Million

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Powerball jackpot is the fourth highest in history and some lucky winner could claim it all Wednesday night.

Powerball dreams lure hundreds of hopefuls into "Dot's Dollar, More or Less" in Castle Shannon.

"I have a lot of customers who come in," says shop owner Dot Skoko. "But I've also had a lot of winners."

The Powerball hovers around $450 million during our visit. Customers have taken home about 450,000 in the past year from this very store. Coincidence? Lucky number? We'll find out soon.

"It's exciting when people win here," the owner says. "It's contagious. One person wins, another person comes in and they try it, and they win something. And it's exciting. That's what it's all about. It's a new year. We need some new money, right?"

"Usually, everyone says they're going to give it to their family," one woman says.

"Probably buy a house for each of my children. We have two," says another.

"I would like to start a foundation with half of that money," a male customer says.

"I'll give some, you know, to some charity organizations, and I would definitely love to get a new house," a woman adds.

Volunteer firefighter Bob Dempsey of Castle Shannon says he'd buy a new pumper.

"It'd only be about $750,000. A drop in the bucket," he said.

And one customer already has an investment plan in mind.

"Take a couple thousand with me to different casinos and have fun," he says.
