Police: Woman's Estranged Husband Killed By Her Boyfriend During Break-In

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man was shot and killed early Sunday morning when police say he broke into his estranged wife's home in Pittsburgh's Esplen section.

Neighbors say they could hear loud screams and gunshots around 4 a.m. coming from a home in the 200-block of Radcliffe Street.

According to police, the woman told 911 dispatchers that she believed her estranged husband had gotten into her home through a first-floor window.

Police say that's when the woman's boyfriend, armed with a gun, came down the stairs and fired.

"As he was ascending the stairs, he encountered his estranged wife's boyfriend, and the boyfriend pulled a gun and shot him three times," said Sonya Toler, of the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department.

The man who was shot and killed has been identified as 33-year-old Laray Jones.

Neighbors say Jones and his estranged wife have been separated for a few years.

Police say Jones was also carrying a weapon when he climbed in through a window.

Both the boyfriend and Jones had legal permits to carry weapons, police said.

The boyfriend was taken away by detectives for questioning. His name has not been released and police aren't saying if he will face charges.

"We won't know that until we've had the opportunity to consult with the D.A.'s office," said Toler.

Police and the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office continue to investigate.
