Police: Woman Found Dead In Cranberry Twp. May Have Killed Mom In Buffalo

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A woman was found dead of an apparent suicide at a hotel in Cranberry Township on Wednesday. However, police believe she may also be responsible for the death of her mother in Buffalo, New York.

According to police, a 55-year-old woman was found dead in her room by hotel staff at the Red Roof Inn on Route 19.

"We did find a 55-year-old female who died of apparently self-inflicted wounds," said Sgt. Chuck Mascellino, of Cranberry Township Police.

Sgt. Mascellino didn't want to specify how Hannah Lilien, of Buffalo, died but said there was no gun present. But investigators did find a note.

"That indicated that she may have harmed her mother," Sgt. Mascellino said. "When we requested that Buffalo check the mother, they found that the mother was deceased as well."

Police say the two women shared the home on Cunard Road in Buffalo where 85-year-old Rose Lilien was found dead. Police say they believe Rose died "possibly sometime Monday of this week."

Police believe sometime on Tuesday Hannah headed for Pittsburgh where she has a brother.

"She drove her own vehicle, which was located at the hotel," Sgt. Mascellino said.

So far, it remains unknown whether Hannah contacted her brother prior to checking into the Red Roof Inn.

"It appears that our victim/suspect may have passed sometime Tuesday evening, sometime after 10 p.m. when she checked in," Sgt. Mascellino said.

Police in Buffalo and here in Cranberry Township are trying to put together the why of it all.

"We believe that the mother may have had some health issues, along with the victim here," said Sgt. Mascellino.

In Buffalo where Hannah has worked in the daycare at the Jewish Community Center for the last 15 years, her coworkers were too upset to comment on Thursday.
