Police: Thieves Impersonate Grandson, Steal Gift Cards From Elderly Couple

VENANGO TWP. (KDKA) -- A man and woman in Venango Township were victimized by people impersonating their grandson.

According to a police report from Pennsylvania State Police, the couple in their 80s were contacted by someone pretending to be their grandson.

The impersonators said they needed money sent by way of iTunes gift cards.

The victims purchased the gift cards and gave the pin numbers to the suspects over the phone.  The grandparents also mailed Walmart gift cards to an address in New York.

No further information has been released.
