Police: Suspect In Uniontown Gas Station Robbery Caught On Surveillance Video

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- Police say they have arrested a suspect in connection with a weekend robbery at a gas station in Fayette County.

According to police, the 35-year-old Ricky Grapes got away with $320 from the Marathon station in Uniontown.

Grapes has a long rap sheet with a lot of thefts.

"He use a ruse that he was in the store earlier the told the store clerk he was shorted $10," said Uniontown Police Lt. Thomas Kolencik.

The store clerk pulled her drawer to recount it. Surveillance cameras show what happened next.

He was allegedly seen reaching over the counter to grab the money from the register.

Uniontown Police say the clerk helped them track down the Grapes by following him out of the store and keeping in contact with 911.

"He ran out and jumped in a car he arrived in, with an acquaintance who barely knew him," said Kolencik. "The employees are the heroes. They ran out and told the guy don't start the car. He was unaware the guy he gave a ride to was about rob the store."

Employees then took pictures of Grapes as he took off.

Authorities say he was trying to go into a housing complex when police caught up to him.

He was taken into custody, arraigned and then taken to the Fayette County Prison.
