Man In Custody Following Police Standoff In Mt. Pleasant Twp.

MT. PLEASANT TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- One person is in police custody after gunfire rang out Monday morning in Westmoreland County, prompting a standoff.

According to emergency officials, it all started around 7 a.m. when shots were fired inside of a home on Pine Street in Mt. Pleasant Township.

A bullet hole could be seen in an upstairs window.

State police were called in a short time later and had several troopers in tactical gear surround the home. A battering ram was also brought in.

Eventually, officers took a man into custody.

Neighbors say they saw the police outside their home and were not aware what was going on.

"Just a bunch of police, their guns drawn. Just ready to take action," neighbor Nathaniel Shirey said. "It's pretty quiet. I would have never imagined anything like this would happen."

State police do not believe there is any threat to the community.

The forensics unit arrived around 11 a.m. to start their investigation.
