Police Release Surveillance Video In Grocery Store Robbery

NEW KENSINGTON (KDKA) -- Police in Westmoreland County are asking for help from the public after surveillance cameras captured a bold robbery at a grocery store in New Kensington.

Video at the Golden Dawn supermarket on Freeport Road shows the robber pointing a gun at a clerk's back and walking him through the store.

Police say the thief took money from a register and cigarettes, and then fired a shot into the ceiling.

"It's kind of like his way of saying I'm for real," said New Kensington Police Chief Tom Klawinski.

Over in seconds, the gunman then dashed out the store.

"The description we have is about a 5-foot-9, 170, 180 pound black male," said Chief Klawinski.

No one was hurt, but all involved were understandably shaken up.

The robber is still on the loose.
