Police: Man Turns Himself In After Allegedly Attacking Girlfriend With Knife, Hammer

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A Pittsburgh man is behind bars after police say he attacked his girlfriend with a hammer and a knife, leaving her with severe injuries.

According to the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department, Rodney Webb turned himself into police just after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Hill District. He is now being held in the Allegheny County Jail.

Police say they arrested him in connection with the alleged attack, which happened at Webb's girlfriend's home on Memory Lane earlier that morning, just after midnight.

Investigators say the 65-year-old victim was in her bedroom when Webb approached her to ask a question. Then, authorities say he's accused of assaulting her with a hammer and knife.

Police say the victim waited an hour to call for help, and in that time the suspect managed to get away.

She was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital where she's listed in critical condition.

After turning himself in, Webb was also taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries from the incident.

Police continue to investigate.
