Police: Woman Follows Man Home To Rob Him After Watching Him Win At Rivers Casino

ASPINWALL, Pa. (KDKA) -- An early morning assault in Aspinwall landed a man in the emergency room.

Neighbors are reacting to the news after hearing someone attacked a 66-year-old resident and robbed him.

Investigators released late Tuesday that the suspect, 28-year-old Jaimeca Johnson, followed the victim home from the Rivers Casino, assaulted him and stole $1,500 cash out of his pocket.

Detectives used surveillance video from Rivers Casino's floor and the parking garage to track down Johnson.

"I just heard from a neighbor this morning who reached out to ask if we knew anything or if we were OK," said neighbor Kevin Kerr.

Kerr lives across the street from where detectives say Johnson assaulted the victim near the intersection of Western Avenue and 2nd Street. Police aren't releasing his name, but believe Johnson trailed him home from the casino after overhearing he won several bets at the BetRivers Sportsbook.

"I'm really glad that she was caught," said Kerr. "I'm glad to hear it wasn't someone just randomly lurking the streets in the neighborhood."

Jack Horner, a spokesperson for the casino, released a statement, saying:

"Rivers Casino Pittsburgh has over a thousand surveillance cameras monitoring the property 24/7. We cooperated fully with this investigation and commend police on their quick apprehension of the suspect."

The cameras allegedly show Johnson following the victim from the cash-out center to the elevator and then to the parking garage. The cameras show her getting off the elevator on a different floor than the victim but hopping in her car and driving the wrong way up the ramp to the floor where the victim parked.

Cameras along Route 28 allegedly show the suspect following the victim to his home in Aspinwall.

According to the criminal complaint, when the victim pulled into his driveway, Johnson allegedly put a gun to him and said, "Give me the money or I'll shoot you."

Another neighbor told police he heard the commotion from his nearby window and watched as a woman beat his neighbor in the face and head. Police say she stole his cash from his pocket and ran.

The victim got himself to UPMC St. Margaret Hospital, but doctors later transported him to UPMC Presbyterian due to his facial injuries and head trauma.

Johnson faces felony charges including aggravated assault and robbery.
