Police Make Illegal Firearm, Drug Arrest After ShotSpotter Alert

HOMEWOOD (KDKA) -- Police arrested a Homewood man for illegally possessing a firearm and the possession of illegal drugs Saturday morning.

Officers were sent to the intersection of Idlewild and Sterret Streets just before 7 a.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter alert.

Police say when officers arrived on the scene, they noticed a man -- later identified as 23-year-old Richard Burch, of Homewood -- sitting in a car. Officers asked Burch if he had heard any gunshots in the area, and while they were speaking to him, police say Burch began to adjust his waistband, indicating he had a firearm.

Officers then asked Burch to step out of the car. When they patted him down, they found a firearm in his pants. Officers determined Burch did not have a license to carry a firearm and took him into custody.

Police then found several bags of marijuana, LSD and drug paraphernalia in Burch's car, along with ammunition and an empty case for another firearm.

Burch was sent to the Allegheny County Jail. He faces felony firearm and drug charges.
