Missing 4-Year-Old From North Side Found Safe

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – After Pittsburgh Police spent hours Friday searching for a little girl from Northview Heights feared missing, it turned out the child was never really lost or missing at all.

Instead, the child got on the wrong school bus this morning headed to the Allegheny School, where she is in kindergarten.

The girl was mistaken as another 4-year-old with a similar sounding name, and spent most of the day in the wrong classroom, unbeknownst to her teacher.

The other girl was absent from class for the day.

School personnel called the girl's mother to report her daughter she was not at school.

That's when the active search began for her.

Then, this afternoon, when the teacher placed the kindergarten students in the parent pick-up line and no one showed up for the girl, staff realized there had been an identity mix-up.

Police were immediately notified, and they relayed the good news to the mother of the Northview Heights child, who went to school to bring her child home.
