Police Investigating After Couple Found Dead Outside Armstrong Co. Home

DISTANT (KDKA)- An autopsy is scheduled for Monday for a couple in Armstrong County that were found dead in their front yard.

Family members discovered the bodies of 64-year-old Kenneth Steffey and 61-year-old Linda Darlene Cook outside their home on State Route 66/State Route 28 in Distant.

The couple was found mostly covered in snow.

State Police closed down a portion of the road while they set up tents and tried to piece together clues as to what caused the couple's deaths.

"It's a surprise to everybody. They had the road blocked off yesterday and did an investigation all day long," | Jerry McGarrity, a neighbor, said.

Cook and Steffey were not well-known to lifelong neighbors like McGarrity. Still, the loss has left him and others wondering why it happened.

"I don't know the people, but I feel bad for their families. It's a shame," McGarrity said.

According to Armstrong County Coroner Brian Myers, the cause and manner of their deaths are pending autopsies.

Both of them were pronounced dead at the scene. The autopsy will be performed at Carlow University by Dr. Cyril Wecht.
