Police Investigating Tesla Autopilot Crash On Pennsylvania Turnpike

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are investigating after a driver reportedly put his Tesla car in autopilot mode and crashed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The Detroit Free Press reports Albert Scaglione and his son-in-law Tim Yanke both survived the rollover crash last Friday near Bedford.

The crash came just one day after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a report on a fatal crash in May involving a Tesla in autopilot.

Tesla told the Free Press that there was no evidence that the autopilot was activated on the Model X car before the crash.

"We received an automated alert from this vehicle on July 1 indicating air bag deployment, but logs containing detailed information on the state of the vehicle controls at the time of the collision were never received," Tesla said in a statement. "This is consistent with damage of the severity reported in the press, which can cause the antenna to fail."
