Police Investigating Murder In Perry South Neighborhood

PERRY SOUTH (KDKA) -Homicide detectives are looking for clues into a deadly shooting in the Perry South neighborhood.

The shooting happened around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday in the 2100-block of Koerner Avenue.

A large crowd of family and friends gathered on the street where the shooting happened. They were mourning the loss of 34-year-old Mark Williams who was murdered outside of a relative's house, where he lived.

Police blocked off several streets as they began investigating the fatal shooting.

"Shortly after one o'clock, we had a situation here where a black male was fatally shot. He was shot multiple times in the chest area," said Pittsburgh Public Safety spokeswoman, Sonya Toler.

Family and friends began congregating at the scene. According to the family, Williams lived at the home with his grandmother and was outside on the steps when he was shot.

"Our officers are on the scene currently, interviewing people trying to determine the extent of what the scene will tell us," said Toler.

Toler did not say if anyone witnessed the shooting or if anyone was able to provide any information about the suspects or motive.

"We do know that the shooter or shooters possibly fled on foot," she said.

At this point, police do not have or are not releasing a description of the person or people involved.
