16-Year-Old Shot Near Party At Mt. Washington Airbnb

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- An investigation is underway after a 16-year-old was shot near a party at an Airbnb in Pittsburgh's Mt. Washington neighborhood.

According to Pittsburgh Police, officers responded to a Shotspotter alert for the 100 block of Secane Avenue just before 1 a.m. Monday.

Alicia Ohly lives a few doors down from the Airbnb and witnessed the chaos unfold.

"I saw the kids up there in the alley, and that's when I saw the one holding the gun," said Ohly. "Then they took off once they saw some cars coming and it was the cops."

When officers arrived at the scene, they saw a group of people leaving a party at an apartment that was being used as an Airbnb. Police found no victims at the scene, but observed damage from gunfire to a vehicle on the street.

Around 2 a.m., police say a 16-year-old boy showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm. He told police he was leaving Secane Avenue when he was shot.

"I was a little anxious," said Ohly. "It's not something I haven't heard before, but when I heard the shell casings were so close to home, it made me a little anxious and scared."

Ohly hopes to see more restrictions and supervision at this Airbnb to try and stop the ongoing violence.

"I have a 10-year-old. I don't want him thinking that this is the way life is. That you go to a party, friends have guns and that's ok. It's not ok. You have to be respectful," Ohly said.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.

Airbnb has told KDKA they do ban parties in their properties. They also have deactivated the listing while they investigate the case and the booking guest has been removed from their platform.

They've said they are ready to support Pittsburgh Police with their investigation.
