Police Investigate Deadly Shooting In Mt. Washington

MT. WASHINGTON (KDKA)- Pittsburgh police homicide detectives are looking into a deadly shooting in Mount Washington.

Around 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, officers were dispatched to a home in the 100 block of Southern Avenue.

Inside the home, Pittsburgh Police found 39-year-old Shawn Cavender with two gunshot wounds to the lower half of his body.

Cavender was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Pittsburgh Police say the shooting happened after an argument between Cavender and another man inside the home.

The suspect is described as being an African-American man in his late 20's or early 30's. He is 5-feet-8-inches tall with a thin build and a medium-brown complexion. He was wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans and a knit cap that was either black or blue.

This morning, neighbors said the street has become increasingly dangerous because of drugs and that this latest homicide is another thing to add to their list of why they want to move.

Police are asking anyone with information to give them a call.
