Man shot, killed by police after opening fire on troopers with shotgun, Pennsylvania State Police say
Troopers shot and killed an Indiana County man who opened fire on them from the roof of his burning home on Sunday evening, Pennsylvania State Police said.
State police said troopers were called to the area of Dixonville Road in Grant Township around 5 p.m. on Sunday to investigate a reported assault.
Police said the suspect, 34-year-old Jonathan James Pearce Jr., was involved in a fight with his neighbor. Police said Pearce got into his truck and rammed the victim's vehicle before firing a gun at his neighbor, another adult and two children. No one was injured.
After learning that Pearce had barricaded himself inside his home and set it on fire, troopers set up a perimeter. Police said Pearce then climbed onto his roof and fired at troopers, who shot back, hitting and killing him.
The Major Case Team from the Pennsylvania State Police Troop A is now investigating the deadly police shooting. State police said the Indiana County District Attorney's Office and Marion Center Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene. The fire marshal is investigating the fire.
The troopers involved in the deadly shooting have been placed on administrative duty in accordance with Pennsylvania State Police policy. Police declined to say how many troopers were involved in the shooting.
