Police: Fawn Twp. Man Aims For Girlfriend, Shoots Dog In Head

FAWN TOWNSHIP (KDKA)- A Fawn Township man is behind bars, accused of shooting a dog and trying to shoot his girlfriend.

Police arrested 59-year-old Thomas Callen, Jr. on attempted homicide, animal cruelty, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment charges.

Officers were called to the suspect's home in the 500 block of Old Mill Road in Fawn Township around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

A 43-year-old woman reported that Callen tried to shoot her.

According to the Post-Gazette, the woman told police she was living in the house with Callen for about a month. But two days ago, she left him.

However, the two got back together and went drinking at area bars. When they returned to the house, the woman said she was lying in bed with Callen's dog when he entered the bedroom.

She claims the dog growled at Callen and enraged him. He had a pistol in his hand. According to the woman, Callen said, "I'll kill you," before firing one shot. The bullet hit the dog in the head.

The woman scrambled out of bed and asked Callen why he fired the gun. Callen allegedly told her, "I meant it for you." The woman says Callen pulled the trigger a second time, but the gun did not go off.

The woman was able to run to a neighbor's house for help.

Callen was taken to the Allegheny County Jail on $20,000 bond.

Police have not released a condition on the dog.
