Man charged with homicide after deadly North Side shooting last month

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A man has been charged with homicide after a deadly shooting on the North Side in February.

Pittsburgh Police Zone 1 officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Chautauqua Street on the North Side for a male who was unresponsive inside a vehicle, police said via Pittsburgh Public Safety release on Feb. 5.

Officers arrived just after 1 p.m. and found the victim had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. EMS personnel transported the victim to the hospital in critical condition. He later died. The victim was later identified as 23-year-old Rasul Abdullah Aquil Jr..

On March 30, police said Aaron Smith was charged with criminal homicide, persons not to possess a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and criminal conspiracy to commit homicide.
