Crash Involving Motorcycle, Tanker Truck Closes Part Of I-79

AMWELL TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Emergency crews were called to the scene of an accident this afternoon in Washington County.

It happened at the Interstate 79 and Route 40 split in Amwell Township just before 3 p.m.

I-79 south is currently closed near the Laboratory Exit after a car rear-ended a camper and caught fire.

The Observer-Reporter reports the accident happened after a motorcycle clipped a tanker truck.

A passenger on the motorcycle was thrown onto the highway.

The camper swerved to miss the woman lying in the road and was rear-ended.

According to emergency dispatchers, medical helicopters were called to the scene.

The accident is causing major traffic tie-ups.

It's not clear how long the highway will be shut down.
