Police: DUI Driver Was 'In Tears' After Crash That Killed Pedestrian

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The victim, identified as Stephen Antenucci from Canada, was crossing Ninth Street after leaving Blush Gentlemen's Club last May when he was hit by an oncoming car.

The driver, 27-year-old Donte Randolph, was charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence. An officer testified that Randolph was in tears after the accident, asking if the victim was going to be alright.

"He was upset by what happened, this was an accident, a tragedy, and that evening he certainly cooperated answered all their questions," explained defense attorney Lyle Dresbold.

Antenucci was with a group of friends at the time. He was thrown into another vehicle and later pronounced dead that morning at Allegheny General Hospital.

Police say Randolph showed signs of impairment with blood shot eyes, slurred speech and a moderate odor of alcohol.

During the preliminary hearing, it was revealed that both the victim and driver had been drinking.

"Once we get all the discovery we'll know about the blood alcohol in both of their bloods, but obviously no one going out and drinking thinks tragedy is going to happen that night, it happens more than we like it to," Dresbold said.

Randolph was held over for trial but because he has no criminal record and is not considered a flight risk, his bond was reduced from $50,000 to $10,000.

"It's a tragedy, it's a tragedy both for the victim and also for Donte and his family it's something both families are going to have to deal with over the next year and really for the rest of their lives," Dresbold said.
