Police: Deputies In West Virginia Fatally Shoot Armed Man

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities in West Virginia say sheriff's deputies attempting to arrest a suspect in an armed robbery fatally shot a man after he confronted deputies at a Morgantown residence with a shotgun.

The Morgantown police and the Monongalia County Sheriff's Office said the deadly force incident occurred in that college town Thursday.

A joint statement said the deputies arrived at a residence to arrest a man on a first-degree armed robbery charge and to serve him with a search warrant. When deputies arrived, they said occupants of the residence attempted to block their entry.

Deputies confronted an individual armed with a shotgun who was subsequently shot. They said he also had a handgun in his possession.

A release did not say if the shooting victim was the suspect.
