1 In Custody After Downtown Chase, Crash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Several people were injured, including the suspect, following a chase and crash in Downtown Pittsburgh on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. at Fort Pitt Boulevard and Wood Street.

It all started as an apparent high-speed chase with a wanted man who was driving an SUV.

The SUV ran a red light and then crashed into a car. The suspect in the SUV then took off running near Market Street, where police took him into custody a short time later.

"I think it's crazy, this poor innocent girl here, her car's totaled and thank God they're alive and the baby is all right," said Shawn Ogg, a witness. "It's just crazy. I don't know why he was running, but whatever reason, it was crazy."

Five people were injured in the incident. Two children were also involved, one in the backseat of each vehicle. But police say they were strapped in properly and not hurt.

"Five adults, between the two cars, have been taken to the hospital," Pittsburgh Police spokesperson Sonya Toler said. "There was a male who fled on foot… and we're not quite clear how he got his injuries just yet, but he received some pretty serious injuries and he was taken as well to the hospital."

Police have identified the suspect as 23-year-old Devon Davis of the North Side. He was wanted on two bench warrants involving illegal gun possession and drug delivery charges.

He is in police custody and is being treated at a local hospital. Police say he is in fair condition. with injuries to both legs.

Those who were injured in the other vehicle sustained minor injuries. One had to be pulled from the car by emergency crews.

Davis will face additional charges, including escape, resisting arrest, flight to avoid apprehension, reckless endangerment, fleeing and eluding, and leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.
