Police Close Off Roads In Cultural District Downtown To Investigate Suspicious Item

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The bomb squad was called out and roads were shut down in the Cultural District in Downtown Friday night due to a suspicious item.

According to emergency dispatchers, the first call came in around 7:20 p.m. about a suspicious package found outside of the Arts Building.

Police closed off Liberty Avenue between 9th and Wood Streets while the bomb squad checked out the situation.

Officials also re-route Port Authority buses.

However, the Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports the package was later found to be a water meter reading device.
