PITTSBURGH (KDKA) --- Pittsburgh Police say a standoff on the city's North Side ended peacefully Wednesday morning when a young woman surrendered.

Officers were first called to a home in the 2800 block of Frederick Street in Pittsburgh's Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood shortly after 3 a.m. The initial call was for a domestic incident.

Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Alicia George said the situation escalated into a SWAT incident, with a female barricaded inside a house.

Six people were inside the home when the incident started.

While five of them ran to safety, a young woman barricaded herself inside the house. Police believed she had a gun and SWAT was called to intervene and set off small flash bangs.

Shortly before 6 a.m., George told reporters that the woman had surrendered peacefully to police.

"We're trying to clear the house so the occupants can return," George said.

The suspect is believed to be in her early 20s. Her name has not been released.
