Police: Beaver Co. Woman ODs On Heroin While Watching Toddler

NEW SEWICKLEY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - A woman from Beaver County is accused of overdosing on heroin at her New Sewickley Township home while her toddler-aged son was asleep.

The woman's boyfriend told police that when he got home on Oct. 17, he found 21-year-old Shelby Lynn Franciscus passed out in a hallway near the kitchen.

The man called for help, and when police arrived, they gave Franciscus two doses of Naloxone to help reverse the symptoms of the suspected overdose.

When EMS workers arrived, they also gave Franciscus a dose of Narcan.

"So, the officers did use a dose of Narcan; they actually had to use two doses," said Officer Richard Jones, of New Sewickley Township Police.

Investigators recovered several suspected drug-related items from the home, including two hypodermic syringe needles, a spoon with burn marks and a wax paper stamp bag.

Emergency workers later found Franciscus' 23-month-old son asleep in a back bedroom near the hallway where she was found.

Franciscus is facing child endangerment and drug charges. She has a preliminary hearing set for Dec. 1.

The child is now in the custody of his grandmother.
