Polar Vortex-Like Front To Bring Cooler Temperatures

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - When you hear the term "Polar Vortex" it creates an image of ice and snow. There are reports that one is making its way toward our area this week.

AccuWeather Meteorologist John Greisak joined "The KDKA Morning News" to explain that we won't be getting anything like we had this past winter.

"It's a pattern very similar to the one we had back in January when we had all that real cold weather, but it's summer now. So, it's not going to snow. It's not going to get down to five degrees or anything like that," says Greiask.

What is going to happen is a few days of "unseasonably cool" weather because a front of "unusually cool" weather making its way to the Midwest and eastern part of the U.S.

The cool air will, "only be around for a few days," according to Greisak. "The coolest air will be coming in (Tuesday) night into Thursday."

Expect daytime temperatures to be in the low 70s, but night temperatures in the low 50's to even 40's in some spots.
