Polanco Officially Signs 5-Year Extension With Pirates

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) –The Pittsburgh Pirates have officially agreed to terms with Gregory Polanco on a five-year extension.

According to the Pirates, the deal begins in 2017 and has club options for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

"We are very pleased to have found a common financial ground with Gregory and his representatives," said General Manager Neal Huntington. "This agreement will provide Gregory with incredible financial security and the club with the ability to build around Gregory as one of our core players for years into the future."

Reports earlier this week indicated the deal was worth $35 million and the club options could take it to at least $60 million.

The 24-year-old outfielder hit .256 with 35 doubles, six triples, nine home runs, 52 RBI, 27 stolen bases in 153 games for the Pirates last year.
