Point Breeze Attempted Burglary Suspect Arrested After Brief Chase

POINT BREEZE (KDKA) – A man is facing charges after allegedly trying to break into a Point Breeze home early Monday morning.

According to police, the incident happened in the 6900 block of Claridge Place around 12:50 a.m.

The homeowner told officers that an African-American male tried to break in through the back door. The homeowner yelled at the suspect, who fled in the direction of Reynolds Street.

Around 1:20 a.m. officers noticed a man matching the suspect's description carrying a small bag. When officers approached the man, he ditched the bag and took off on foot.

With the assistance of a K-9 unit, the man was quickly taken into custody and has been identified as Harry Carter. Initially, Carter gave police false information about his identity.

The bag he discarded contained leather gloves, a flashlight, a screwdriver and a crowbar.

Carter was taken to West Penn Hospital to be checked out before being transported to the Allegheny County Jail.

Carter is facing a list of charges including possessing instruments of a crime, resisting arrest, loitering and prowling at night and providing false identification to police.
