Pittsburgh Woman Describes Being One Block From NYC Blast

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- In a friends apartment, a block from the blast site in Chelsea, 25-year-old Lyndsay Waina says it happened just after 8 p.m. on Saturday night.

"I was just sitting on the couch watching TV when it was like definite, super, super loud noise," she said. "I immediately said to my friend 'it sounds like a bomb went off,' and he said 'Oh I don't think so,' and we ran to the window and you could actually feel the vibrations too, it had to have shook the building. Even though we were 29 stories up it was very, very loud."

What she saw startled her.

"I was looking out over the street, exactly where it was, and I kept looking and it didn't necessarily look like anything. I could see faint smoke, and then one building had alarms going off and lights flashing," Waina said.

When Lyndsay finally made here way to the street, there were police everywhere.  The businesses were closed and the normal bustle of the Chelsea street was hushed.

"It was very quiet and eerie, very strange," she said.

And yet there was no panic.

"I guess I was in shock that something like this happened so close," she said

Lyndsay, who's in New York looking for work, said there is some relief in today's arrest.

"I think we're very lucky we were able to find him right away, but it's scary that someone else could do this anytime, anywhere," she said.

The anywhere is emphasized by where these bombs were placed.

"What was crazy about it was that it happened here in Chelsea, it wasn't at the One World Trade Center or Times Square, this is way more community than any other part of New York. It's sad and scary in that way," she said.

But the Mount Oliver native is not about to let the blast slow her down.

"You can't let it deter you. This could happen anywhere, even in Pittsburgh. Gotta just keep going on."
