Hundreds Attend Annual Veterans Day Parade Downtown
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The City of Pittsburgh honored veterans today with the annual Veterans Day Parade.
This is the day we honor the men and woman who have served our country. People lined Liberty Avenue to show their support.
KDKA-TV's Brenda Waters asked spectators what this Veterans Day meant to them, now that a new president has been elected.
"Most people may be dismayed on what's going on with the election. But, they must remember we, as black individuals, we also played a part in the revolution of the military as it is today as Americans," one man said.
"In lieu of Tuesdays election, the only thing I could say is God bless America and I hope for the best," another man said.
Baron Lindsay of South Park held the largest 'thank you' sign on Liberty Avenue.
"It's a day to show the respect to the men and women who protect this country. I appreciate the sacrifice that they have made so that we might enjoy the freedom that we do in this country."
For some who have served, this day brought back memories.
"We lost a lot of people in Vietnam, so it makes me think about that," said Bennie Rick.
This year's parade started on Liberty Avenue near 10th Street and the route continued to Point State Park.
