Pittsburgh Steelers Week 13 Injury Report: Two Players Ruled Out For Sunday's Game Against Giants

By Danny Cox

After two consecutive victories, the Pittsburgh Steelers are feeling better about this season and looking to get back on track. They were able to defeat the winless Cleveland Browns and an Indianapolis Colts team playing without starting quarterback Andrew Luck. Now, they have to take on the streaking New York Giants who have won six in a row and are looking to catch the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East.

The Steelers look to keep pace with the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North, but they will have to do it without two of their big-name talents. This won't be much different than the past few weeks, though, as neither one of them have played in a while.

Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey is out again with a foot injury and didn't practice at all this week. It was speculated that he would be Questionable against the Giants, but Pittsburgh ruled him officially Out on Friday. DHB hasn't played since the Steelers' loss to the Ravens Nov. 6.

Running back DeAngelo Williams is also Out again with a lingering knee injury. He also hasn't played since the Ravens game earlier this month. Even before that, though, Williams had played in just seven games this season.

Steelers Remove Three Players from Injury Report

The Steelers' injury report is shrinking due to a few names coming off of it. Guard David DeCastro was on it earlier in the week due to an illness, but he practiced in full on Friday and was removed from the list.

Safety Shamarko Thomas (groin) and tight end Xavier Grimble (quadricep) were also taken off of the injury report on Friday. Both players practiced in full the entire week. Thomas is expected to go right back to being a big contributor on special teams. As for Grimble, he may have a hard time finding the field as much due to tight end Ladarius Green being back out there as well.

Giants To Be Without Four Players Sunday Against The Steelers

The Giants have a few more injuries facing them for Sunday's game as they have ruled four players Out.

On defense, safety Nat Berhe is out this week due to being in the NFL's concussion protocol and that means rookie Andrew Adams is set to start in his place. Linebacker Mark Herzlich is also ruled Out due to a concussion. Defensive end Owamagbe Odighizuwa will also be out for the Giants' defense.

Offensively, the Giants will be without guard Justin Pugh who is missing yet another game with a knee injury. It is expected that Adam Gettis will start in his place. Tackle Marshall Newhouse (knee) and center Brett Jones (calf) are both listed as Questionable and will likely be looked at as gametime decisions.

Newhous, Jones, and Pugh all practiced some this week, but Pugh simply isn't in a position for game action.

Out:

  • (WR) Darrius Heyward-Bey (Foot) - Did Not Participate In Practice
  • (RB) DeAngelo Williams (Knee) - Did Not Participate In Practice
