Pittsburgh Ranked Top City In America For Hockey Fans

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh has been ranked as the best city in America for hockey fans!

That is at least according to a study by Wallet-Hub — a web-based personal finance company.

According to their website, "We ranked 74 of the largest cities using a total of 18 key metrics that range from ticket prices to stadium accessibility to the performance level of each city's teams."

In case you were wondering, Philadelphia was ranked 30th overall. That isn't all that surprising considering the team just celebrated the 40th anniversary of their last Stanley Cup championship.

Despite two lockouts since 2005, the NHL is seeing a big uptick in popularity. In fact, the NHL has seen more arenas sell out than the NBA recently.

For the cherry on top, Pittsburgh was also ranked as having the most friendly and engaged NHL fans.

Here's a look at the Top 10:

  1. Pittsburgh
  2. Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts
  3. St. Louis
  4. Tampa
  5. Boston
  6. St. Paul, Minnesota
  7. Detroit
  8. Denver
  9. Chicago
  10. Anaheim

Honorable mentions:

  • No. 20 – Washington, D.C.
  • No. 26 – New York City
  • No. 30 – Philadelphia
