Man arrested in fatal New Year's Eve shooting in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A man was arrested on homicide charges in a fatal shooting on New Year's Eve in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood. 

Police announced on Thursday that 42-year-old Timothy Debold was arrested in the death of 44-year-old Lonnell Newkirk. 

Officers were dispatched to Maytide Street around 8:45 p.m. on Dec. 31. for reports of a man who was shot. Officers then found the victim on the front porch of his house with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Newkirk was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced deceased, police said.

Police said Debold was arrested by Pittsburgh Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit detectives and the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force on Jan. 9 on unrelated outstanding warrants. 

Debold is being held in the Allegheny County Jail on charges of criminal homicide, burglary, carrying a firearm without a license and persons not to possess.
